Feasibility of Alternative Water for Mine Rehabilitation (Action 4)
Given the prospect of a drying climate, existing and potential future uses for water in the region and the need for mine rehabilitation activities and the final landform to be climate resilient, the feasibility of using Alternative Water – if a water-based rehabilitation option progresses, is being further explored. In this presentation DELWP will explain alternative water sources, the different potential options that might be considered, and why.
Identification of non water and contingency rehabilitation options to manage land stability and fire risks if sufficient water is not available (Action 5)
This action explores the opportunities, constraints, risks and benefits associated with rehabilitation options that do not involve filling the mines, partly or fully, with water. It will also explore potential contingency rehabilitation options to manage land stability and fire risks in the event the mines proceed with a water-based rehabilitation option but sufficient water is not available to reach and maintain the desired water level. This session will provide an update on the progress on this action and next steps.
