Welcoming our new CEO

Dr Jenny Brereton has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Mine Land Rehabilitation Authority (MLRA).

“I am delighted to announce that Dr Jenny Brereton has joined the MLRA as Interim CEO. Jenny brings a wealth of experience to the role and is excited to be joining the team. The Board greatly appreciates Rhonda Hastie’s management of the Authority as acting CEO over the last seven months. Rhonda will remain a leading presence as Technical Advisor. We look forward to the Authority’s development under Jenny and to working with the community and stakeholders through a very busy time for mine rehabilitation planning in the Latrobe Valley,” said Emeritus Professor Rae Mackay, Chair, MLRA Board. 

As an environmental professional with a strong background in sustainable, ethical practices Jenny has extensive major project experience across diverse industries with government, consultancies and the private sector, including liaising with government authorities, community groups and corporations.

Jenny’s qualifications include a Doctorate in Organisational Change Management (DBA), a Masters of Environmental Science, a Masters of Public and International Law, a BA in Geography, Lead Auditor (quality, safety and environmental) and a Certificate in Carbon Accounting. Jenny is also an accredited Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP), a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), chair of the Technical Review Board with the Earth Resources Regulator and a member of the Board for the Certified Environmental Practitioner Program.

When asked about her new role Jenny said, “I’m excited to work with a great team of people and have the opportunity to engage with the community and other stakeholders on the issues that are important to them. I look forward to working with community, Traditional Owners, industry and government to ensure that all views and perspectives are heard, communicated and incorporated to lead to positive outcomes for all.”
