Yellow Buttons

Description

The Australian Yellow Buttons (Chrysocephalum apiculatum) is a perennial herb, also known as Common Everlasting or Sticky Everlasting, it boasts small, button-like flower heads clustered on its stems. Displaying silver-gray foliage and brilliant yellow flowers, it is highly resilient and drought-tolerant. When mature these plants can combine to form a thick mat but flowers which appear in late spring are contained on 15cm stems which rise above the plant.

Distribution

Widespread across Australia, the Yellow Buttons thrives in diverse habitats, from coastal areas to inland regions.

Flourishing in sandy soils and open woodlands, it is a common sight in all mainland states and northern Tasmania. Its ability to adapt to a range of climates, from temperate to arid, underscores its resilience.

Propagation

Propagation of Yellow Buttons is relatively straightforward. It can be grown from seeds by sowing directly into well-draining soil. This process mimics the natural dispersal of seeds by the wind. Additionally, stem cuttings can be taken and rooted to establish new plants. Planting under trees results in less rigorous growth than those that are exposed to the sun.
